Wahltag in Deutschland

Today is German election day!!! It looks like the Conservative Merkel of CDU/CSU will win, but it's not clear how much she will win by. She will probably become chancellor in this most unlikely situation: the so-called traffic-light coalition. This coalition combines the red (SDP), green (Grün), and Yellow (FDP) parties. Yes, the parties have colors, like blue and red states. These parties have pledged not to work together however, but no one plans to work together, but it's gonna be necessary.
More likely, Merkel will succeed Schröder as Chancellor. She will be the first German Chancellorette ever. If she were to have her choice, she would be able to have an outright majority, unlikely. Or she would rule with the FDP, federal-liberal party, which shares some of her goals, but not all.
Merkel has been losing ground lately, in part because of her choice of one ultra conservative to become finance minister, should she win. He has suggested some changes which are very unwelcome in Germany. Merkel is trying to distance herself. Also, Merkel just doesn't have the charisma of Schröder. He works the rope line and interacts with people. That's his Schtick. Merkel kind of gets up there and lectures. Finally, since the beginning of this Wahlkampf (campaign), the question has been on the CDU/CSU to say what they will do to change things. How will they lessen the unemployment? How will they fix the very real problems in the economy? What will they do with the EU? Turkey? The answer has been a garbled "We will fix the problems that need fixing and....uh...Schröder has done a bad job.. and...well...rot-gruene is over!" As of now according to Wahlstreet on the zeit.de webpage:
Predicted party percentage in new Bundestag:
SPD: 33.17%
CDU/CSU: 41%
Green: 7.8%
FDP: 7.58%
Linkspartei (former communist and leftist parties): 7.8%
Other: 2.8%

Poll of possible coalitions:
SPD/Grün: 1%
CDU/CSU/FDP: 54%
CDU/CSU/SPD (Grand Coalition): 35%
SPD/Linkspartei: .02%
SPD/Links/Grün: 2%
CDU/CSA alone: .2%
None: 6%

Who'll be chancellor?
Merkel: 84%
Schroeder: 8%
Someone else: 9.5%

You decide.
Humor later, I hope.

Im glad someone keeps up with the German politics. I knew there was an election this fall, but obviously got cuaght up in the Hope bubble...sigh. I love Hope but the bubble can get to me. It will be interesting to see what the CDU/CSu do with Germany. What will they do with Agenda 2010? How will they take to Turkey enterting the EU? These are things i need to start paying more attention to. Heck a german teacher should pay atleast some attention to the politics of the country they are introducing students to. I am excited i have a german field placement finally!
Anyway thanks for informing me on the Wahltag.
